HOLLY SPRINGS — A Marshall County deputy died Friday after being injured in a one-vehicle accident on a rural road.
County Coroner Richard Anderson says Deputy Carol Scruggs lost control of her patrol car on Red Banks Road west of Holly Springs sometime before 7:30 a.m. Friday.
Anderson says Scruggs was ejected after the vehicle left the road and flipped several times.
He says Scruggs was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center at Memphis where she was later pronounced dead.
Sheriff Kenny Dickerson says Scruggs joined the sheriff’s department in July 2006.
Dickerson says the accident is under investigation.
“She was a really good person, and she loved her job – just loved it,” said her cousin Shirley Moon of Tupelo. “You know there are risks in law enforcement, but it’s still such a shock, so tragic when something like this happens.”
