UPDATE: Miss. State fraternity suspended by national

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State University says police are investigating allegations of a possible sexual assault and alcohol violations at a campus fraternity house.

Bill Kibler, vice president for student affairs, says in a statement that police searched the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity house on Wednesday.

Kibler says police Thursday were interviewing witnesses about what allegedly happened at a weekend party.

The fraternity said Thursday in a statement that it’s cooperating with law enforcement and that “local chapter operations have been suspended.”

Kibler didn’t provide details of the alleged violations.

Kibler says the fraternity faces the possibility of university sanctions and criminal charges.
