JACKSON – Residential foreclosure filings in Mississippi jumped 29 percent from April to May, continuing a skyrocketing trend over the past year.
That’s according to California-based RealtyTrac, which tracks foreclosure filings nationwide.
In May, 2,891 Mississippi homeowners received at least one foreclosure-related filing, ranging from an initial notice of default to properties that have been repurchased by a financial institution. In Mississippi, 434 homes were taken back in May.
Mississippi ranked 43th in RealtyTrac’s survey of foreclosure filings. The latest figure was 134 percent higher than in May 2008.
