TUPELO – North Mississippi Medical Center-Tupelo announced plans Thursday for a $55 million project that will build a new 5-story patient bed tower on the west side of the hospital.
The expansion and renovation, which have been in the planning stages for a decade, will replace half of the hopsital’s patient rooms and renovate the 45-year-old west wing of the hospital.
Many of the aging rooms that will be replaced are cramped and have no private showers.
The 3 1/2 year project will be paid for with a combination of bonds and funds the hospital has set aside for capital projects.
Hospital leaders sought input from hundreds of health care professionals, patients, families and community members for the project and anticipate breaking ground in late spring or early summer.
