UPDATE: No fried foods at West Point schools

WEST POINT – The West Point School District has eliminated fried foods from school menus.

Susie Walker, the district’s child nutrition director, had urged the board to act this week so she can apply for a federally funded Equipment Assistance Grant. The grant, which is federal stimulus funding, is administered through the Mississippi Department of Education.

Walker wants to buy two combination convection oven/steamers.

Walker says the district was serving fried foods only twice a month.
