TUPELO – A house fire at 1507 Trace Ave. has sent a father and his son to North Mississippi Medical Center.
Thomas Brown, 73, who lives in the home, and his son, Michael Brown, 40, of Southaven, were both transported to the hospital shortly before noon today. Tupelo firefighters described the elder Brown as responsive but said his son was not.
Elizabeth Gray, the stepdaughter of Thomas Brown and a resident of the home, said Michael Brown has been ill and was visiting his father. The three were all in the home when the fire broke out.
Emergency medical personnel tended to the younger Brown for about 15 minutes on the front porch of the home. They had detected a pulse before he was taken to the hospital.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green appeared at the scene and followed the ambulance transporting Michael Brown to the hospital.
Elizabeth Gray said she didn’t know how the fire started. She was in the basement when she smelled smoke.
