GREENVILLE – A Nov. 15 trial date is set for seven Oxford area men accused of numerous federal hunting violations.
U.S. Magistrate Judge David Sanders will preside over the trial in Greenville.
Christopher Groner, Thomas Cobb, Chad Russom, Robert Jennings, Edward Connor, Danny Hipp and Jesse Steelman pleaded not guilty Oct. 12 to a 14-count information, which is a charge that doesn’t go through a grand jury.
They are accused, essentially, of killing many more migratory game birds than allowed by law last January at a Tallahatchie County hunting camp.
Groner, Cobb and Russom also are accused of crippling or killing the birds, and leaving them.
Jennings also is accused of hunting in 2009 without proper permits.
John M. Dowdy Jr., an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District, is prosecutor in the case.
If found guilty, the men face up to six months in prison per count and a $15,000 fine per count.
