UPDATE: 'Personhood' measure cleared for Mississippi ballot

JACKSON – Mississippians will have a chance to vote on whether the state should amend its constitution to say that personhood begins at fertilization.

The secretary of state’s office this morning confirmed that a petition calling for the vote contained enough valid signatures to get it on the ballot in 2011.

It is the second initiative approved this year for the 2011 ballot. The first one calls for a statewide vote on whether Mississippi should have a voter ID requirement.
