UPDATE: Police: Student with gun didn’t want to harm

AMORY – An 11-year-old boy was in a Lee County juvenile holding facility, pending a Friday hearing, after reportedly bringing a gun to East Amory Elementary School on Wednesday.
Amory Police Chief Ronnie Bowen said the 9-mm handgun was fully loaded.
“The child had the gun on the bus and had shown to other students and had shown it to someone on the school grounds. The gun was in a backpack.”
Bowen said a student reported the gun to a teacher.
“I do not think that the student had any intentions of hurting anyone, but was fascinated with a weapon,” Bowen said. “We are certainly thankful no one was hurt. Our officers and the school handled the situation in a very admirable manner.”
