A preliminary autopsy report has ruled the death of Anna Cartherine McCoy a homicide.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Gillentine-Green said the state medical examiner’s report said McCoy’s gunshot wound was consistent with that of a homicide.
Gillentine-Green said McCoy was shot on the right side of her mouth.
Saltillo Investigator Mark Haygood said her body was found at a home at 134 Willoughby Oaks Drive in Saltillo. Police and an ambulance were called to the home about 10 p.m. Thursday.
Saltillo police have not charged anyone with murder at this time. Haygood said before the department calls McCoy’s death a murder they will wait for the full report to come in. Haygood said he hoped to have it within the next 72 hours.
McCoy was a member of the Itawamba Community College women’s soccer team.
