MARIETTA – Teams continue a search for a Prentiss County man described as mentally challenged who wandered away a County Road 5051 home on Sunday morning, said Sheriff Randy Tolar.
Lewis Daniel Thompson, 47, is described as a white male, about 5-feet-9-inches tall, weighing about 143 pounds, who has short brown hair growing back after having his head shaved. He also has a brownish-white beard. He was last seen wearing black pajama bottoms, a blue long-sleeve shirt and no shoes.
Thompson was reported missing to the Prentiss County Sheriff’s Office at about 4 p.m. Sunday, the sheriff said, after family members and others had been searching from the time he was missed about 9:30 a.m.
He had been at a residence at 784 County Road 5051, which is also known as Old Marietta Road.
After searchers – which included family members, volunteer firefighters and the search and rescue team from Union County – found bare footprints near a pond, a dive team was called in, which searched the pond with no result.
By midday Monday searchers saw fresh bare footprints which had not been there Sunday, the sheriff said.
