OXFORD – Sentencing for Michael and Marie Salts will not be today in the wake of a camping mishap that led to the death of their son, England Dan, this weekend.
The Saltses, now divorced and former funeral home owners in Prentiss County, were scheduled to appear this afternoon before Senior U.S. District Judge Neal B. Biggers Jr. to learn their fate for guilty pleas in a home-purchase fraud case out of Lee County.
But early Sunday morning, their 21-year-old son died of an apparent drowning.
Marie Salts’ attorney today asked for a delay, saying federal prosecutors did not object to the change.
Michael Salts continues to serve a state prison term associated with another charge but asked for bond Monday to attend the funeral.
A U.S. Attorney’s Office spokesman said the delay was granted. Later n the morning, the court agreed to postpone the hearing.
Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green reported that she expects an autopsy to tell more about how England Dan Salts died while he and friends were camping in rural Lee County.
