UPDATE: Search resumes for possible Monroe County drowning victim

The search resumed Monday for a Smithville teenager who is believed to have drowned in the Buttahatchie River.

Authorities say 15-year-old Taylor Smith went swimming with three friends Friday and officials believe he was probably dragged under water by a strong current.

His body wasn’t found during an initial search. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department resumed the search Monday and is being assisted by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks and the Columbus Dive Team, which is part of the Columbus Fire Department.
