UPDATE: Sheriff's Office responds to drowning

By NEMS Daily Journal

Neighbors recovered the body of 74-year-old Ray Strength Thursday from a lake in Plantersville near Tombigbee State Park.
Lee County Sheriff Jim Johnston said the man was pronounced dead at the scene and had been turned over to the coroners office for further investigation, though no foul play is suspected. He is presumed to have drowned accidentally.
Coroner Carolyn Green said Strength had known health issues and there appeared to be no sign of trauma. She said the body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
Johnson said Strength fished daily and that relatives said he has been gone since this morning. He had a life preserver partially on when his body was recovered.
Johnson said the man was fishing from a small boat that was found upright but partially filled with water. His tackle box and fishing pole were missing.
