TUPELO – The state Tax Commission approved Sunday liquor and wine sales for Tupelo, but it won’t go into effect until January at the earliest.
Tax commissioners held their regular meeting Tuesday and voted on Tupelo’s request to allow liquor sales in restaurants from 1-10 p.m. Sundays, said commission spokeswoman Kathy Waterbury.
“But they did not sign an order,” she said, “and it is not official until an order is signed and entered into record.”
Although the commission meets again Wednesday to handle tax matters, it’s not scheduled to discuss alcohol-related business again until Jan. 5. Waterbury said that’s likely when commissioners will sign the order.
Beer and light wine is currently available seven days a week.
