UPDATE: Two Ole Miss students dead after wreck in Lafayette County

UPDATE: A second person has died after a car accident in Lafayette County this morning and authorities have released names of those who have died.

Sarah Wheat, 23, of Crofton, Maryland was pronounced dead earlier on scene by Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy. John Wheat, 30, of Crofton, Maryland was pronounced dead at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis later as a result of injuries.

The brother and sister were students at Ole Miss.

They were in the car traveling west bound, a vehicle traveling east bound crossed the median and hit them.

Kennedy didn’t know the name of the driver or extent of his injuries. The driver was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital in North Mississippi.

OXFORD – One person was killed in a two car accident in Lafayette County this morning.
Around 11 a.m., a car crossed the median on Highway 6 while driving west and struck another car head on according to Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy.
Another person was injured and flown away by helicopter for treatment of serious injuries. Kennedy said he did not know which hospital the victim was flown to at this time.
The name of the deceased is not being released until Kennedy can contact the next of kin.
The wreck happened just wast of the Highway 7 overpass on Highway 6.
