UPDATE: Anthony Seals of Houston was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with the robbery, according to Vardaman Police Chief Kenny Scott.
Authorities are looking for a man and possible accomplice who robbed Mounce Supermarket in Vardaman Monday night.
Vardaman Police Chief Kenneth Scott said a black male entered the store at 5:57 p.m., approached the checkout line with items and when the clerk opened the register he reached over and grabbed cash.
“He put the items on the counter and when the cash drawer opened he grabbed the cash,” said Scott. “He told the clerk he had a gun.”
Scott said the bandit was described as having a small build.
“He left the building on foot and went around back and shed his clothes,” said Scott. “We found a cap and jacket that we believe was used in the robbery.”
Scott said police also have received information the suspect got into a black or dark purple sedan that was possibly driven by another person.
Scott said the incident happened quickly and most customers did not even know the store had been robbed. Scott said this was the first time he can remember Mounce’s being robbed.
“We are working on a number of leads and hope to make an arrest very soon,” said Scott. “We are glad no one was hurt.”
Scott said the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department are also working this case.
Scott pointed out the crime occurred during the day and others may have seen the suspect or the vehicle as it left the area.
Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.
