UPDATE: Wind, rain hit Northeast Mississippi

National Weather Service forecast:

High Wind Warning in effect until 6PM tonight.
Wind Advisory remains in effect until 6am Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Memphis has issued a high wind warning which is in effect until 6 pm cst this evening. A wind Advisory remains in effect until 6 am cst wednesday.

* Winds: sustained South winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40 mph ahead of the front. A cold front will move through late this afternoon with winds becoming west 35 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. winds will subside tonight but still remain 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45.

* Timing: strong winds will continue through tonight and subside by early wednesday morning.

* Impacts: tree and power line damage and power outages are likely as the cold front goes through and winds gust to 60 mph. Unsecured outdoor items will blow around and travel in high profile vehicles will become difficult.

Today…Windy. Showers and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall possible. Highs in the lower 60s. South winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to near 35 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Tonight…Windy. Mostly cloudy with rain likely and a chance of thunderstorms early in the evening…then mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain late in the evening. Partly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the mid 20s. West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts to near 35 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.
