OLIVE BRANCH — Two parking areas on U.S. Highway 78 in Desoto County are being closed.
The areas are located on opposite sides of U.S. 78 about 1.3 miles east of the Mississippi Highway 309 interchange and 1.1 miles west of the Bethel Road interchange.
MDOT says excessive litter, reports of lewd behavior and other misuse of the parking areas, led to the decision. Officials say there are other places in the area for motorists to safely stop if they need a break.
MDOT officials say the blue “Parking Area” signs along U.S. 78 will have “closed” signs placed on them as early as next week to alert motorists. MDOT will install barriers at the entrances and exits to prevent use of the areas until the ramps can be removed.
