MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Federal marshals have arrested an Arkansas parolee who was sought in the fatal beating of a Memphis schoolteacher.
WPTY-TV in Memphis quotes Deputy U.S. Marshal Lamont Ruffin in reporting 36-year-old Cedric Burks was arrested Tuesday at a bus station in Las Vegas.
Maggie Wright had been last seen leaving a Tunica, Miss., casino early Dec. 19. Later that day, West Memphis, Ark., police found her body near railroad tracks, but it wasn’t identified until three days later.
West Memphis Assistant Chief of Police Donald Oakes says the 58-year-old Wright was beaten so badly that authorities had to use fingerprints to identify her body.
Burks is being held in the Clark County Jail in Nevada.
