US Senate panel delays vote on Graves nomination

By The Associated Press

JACKSON — The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee met Thursday in Washington but did not consider the nomination of Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James Graves for a federal judgeship.

The committee website says Graves’ nomination to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals was held over, as were nominations for 10 other people to federal judgeships.

A committee spokesman says the nominations will be considered later, but the agenda for the next meeting was not immediately set.

The 5th Circuit hears appeals from Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. President Barack Obama nominated the slate of federal judges, including Graves.
