VARDAMAN – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrest

VARDAMAN – Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department deputies arrested a Vardaman woman Friday in connection with the March 10 shooting death of her husband.

Geraldine Alford, 37, of state Highway 341 South, was charged with murder in connection with the death of Anthony “Tony” Alford.

Tony Alford, 45, was shot in the head with a .38-caliber pistol at about 6 a.m. March 10 at the couple’s Vardaman residence.

Sheriff Billy Mac Gore said he received autopsy and lab reports Friday that led to Geraldine Alford’s arrest.

Gore said sheriff’s department and Mississippi Highway Patrol investigators waited to receive the reports before making any arrests in order to eliminate all other theories in Tony Alford’s death.

“There was no sign of forced entry or any other evidence pointing to any other suspect in this case,” Gore said in a press release.

The case is set to be presented to the Calhoun County grand jury in June, Gore said.
