Vardaman goes down fighting in Greenville

GREENVILLE – Vardaman gained a lot of confidence in their game one loss to Greenville St. Joseph in the opening round of the Class 1A playoffs, but a late rally by St Joe on Monday brought the Rams season to an end.
St. Joe took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but Vardaman battled back to cut the Fighting Irish led to 3-2 in the top of the second. Greenville answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and another run in the third before the Rams scored five unanswered runs over the next three innings to take a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
The Irish bats heated up to score five runs in the bottom half of the inning to escape a possible game three with an 11-7 series-clinching win.
Vardaman manufactured seven runs on eleven hits and two Greenville errors.
In game one, Vardaman dropped a 8-0 home decision.
Kevin Barnette was the pitcher of record for Vardaman in both games.
