Volunteer firefighters face arson charge

TCHULA — Authorities say two volunteer firefighters face arson charges after being accused of setting a vehicle ablaze in the Tchula community.

State Chief Deputy Fire Marshal Ricky Davis tells The Clarion-Ledger the case against Calvin Greer and Alvin Greer is ongoing so there’s not a lot his office can release.

The two were arrested in late February in the alleged arson of Calvin Greer’s 1999 Dodge Van, and authorities say the motive seems to be insurance fraud. The van was valued at $3,000.

Officials say they were led to investigate the brothers from a Crimestoppers tip.

A release from the fire marshal’s office says the Greer brothers may face additional charges.
