Wake planned Monday in eastern Mississippi for 5 crash victims

PHILADELPHIA — A wake is planned Monday for five young siblings who died when a sport utility vehicle driven by their father careened off an eastern Mississippi road and into a creek.

The wake is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Pearl River Facility Building in Choctaw. Their funeral is scheduled for Wednesday at the same location.

A funeral for Dianne Chickaway, 380, a sixth victim of Saturday’s deadly crash near Philadelphia, is set for Thursday at Hopewell Baptist Church in Leake County.

All were members of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.

The children who died were identified as 9-year-old Daisyanna John; 8-year-old Duane John; 7-year-old Bobby John; 4-year-old Quinton John; and 18-month-old Kekambas John.

A tribe spokeswoman said four of the five children attended Pearl River Elementary School.

Master Sgt. Johnny Poulos, a Highway Patrol spokesman, said an accident reconstruction team was at the scene on Sunday.

“We are in the process of determining what contributed to the crash. Once that information is compiled, all the results are turned over to the Neshoba County Sheriff’s Department,” Poulos said Monday.

Poulos said accident reconstruction investigations usually take a week or two to complete.
