WATER VALLEY – Water Valley schools superintendent Deborah Moran will be stepping down on June 30.

Moran announced her resignation to the school board earlier this week,

In a statement, Moran told board members that she was returning to her home in Hancock County to be with her family, including her husband who has cancer.

Moran also is running for the school superintendent’s job in Hancock County. She is one of four Republican candidates on the ballot.

Moran will leave Water Valley after completing one year of a two-year contract. She was hired on July 1, 2010, after an eight-month search.

Lamar Burgess, the school board president, says a search for a replacement is under way.
