Water woes at Lake Lamar Bruce

By Thomas Wells/NEMS Daily Journal

The water level at Lake Lamar Bruce has dropped almost four and half feet as of Thursday and continues to drop while the lake is being drained.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks is lowering the water level because of fears the levee might not hold and in order to begin construction on a new levy.

According to Mayor Bill Williams, Lake Lamar will be closed until Dec. 1 and will not reopen until the project is complete. Construction is expected to begin as soon as weather permits in 2011. Williams said the project will take between two to three years.
