SHERMAN – A Waterford man was charged with DUI and fleeing the cops after a a high speed chase along Highway 78 early this morning.
Chadwick Lee Gammons, 44, of Waterford, was taken into custody after an Alabama police department deployed spike strips, flattening Gammons tires.
The chase started in Sherman when Sherman Police Chief Joel Spellins said the man sped away from Wild Bills.
“The guy pulled out wide open, spinning tires and speeding,” he said. “My officer and a Pontotoc deputy were across the street.”
The chase had gone over 50 miles when Spellins said Gammons tried to exit but couldn’t turn on the flat tire and crashed into some street signs.
Gammons was taken into custody by Alabama Highway Patrol but the Sherman Police Department and Lee County Sheriff’s Office have placed holds on him.
If he makes bond in Alabama, Lee County law enforcement officials will work to have him extradited to Lee County.
