HEIDELBERG, Miss. (AP) — Authorities have identified the woman killed while hunting this past weekend Jasper County.
Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks spokesman James Walker tells The Laurel Leader Call that 66-year-old Elaine Hutto of Laurel was shot Saturday while she and her husband were squirrel hunting.
Officials say Hutto was pronounced dead at South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel at 7:52 p.m. Saturday. Her body was sent to the state Crime Laboratory for an autopsy.
Walker says it appears a hunter shot at sounds without identifying his target. No charges were immediately filed.
An investigation continues.
