WEST POINT – Firefighters battled 30-foot flames Thursday afternoon to contain a blaze in a grease lagoon at Bryan Foods in West Point.
West Point Fire Chief Richard Stripling said firefighters were able to confine the fire, which began about 3:10 p.m., to one-third of the 1-acre grease lagoon.
The fire was under control about 45 minutes after firefighters arrived on the scene, Stripling said.
There was little danger of the fire spreading beyond the foot-deep lagoon, which holds byproducts from the meat production, Stripling said. No one was injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the West Point Fire Department and Bryan Foods, Stripling said.
