William Bowles
HOUSTON – William Eugene “Billy” Bowles, 78, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
He was born April 30, 1934, in Chickasaw County to Stanley Bowles and Sally Dee Tacker Bowles. He was a graduate of Tupelo High School. He retired from Campbell 66, was a former State Representative for District 22 for 20 years, was the owner of Bowles Grocery for 34 years and was an Army Veteran. He was a member of Houston First United Methodist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Houston First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Patrick officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Gardens. Houston Funeral Home of Houston is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Kate Wooldridge Bowles of Houston; his sons, Steve and Jane Pearson of Houston and Mike and Deedie Pearson of Pontotoc; his grandchildren, Jay Pearson, Lauren Pearson, Patrick Pearson, Jenna Leigh Aldridge, Merry Claire Pearson and Will Pearson; his great-grandchildren, Ella Cate Alford, Jackson Aldridge, Eli Aldridge, and Embry Aldridge; and his brother, Howard and Martha Bowles of Corinth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jackie; and a very special aunt and uncle, Elna and Rufus Sullivan.
Pallbearers are Jay Pearson, Patrick Pearson, Will Pearson, Stan Bowles, Ted Foster and Gray Bowles.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mattie Tacker Hill
OKOLONA – Mattie Evelyn Tacker Hill, 99, died at her home surrounded by her loving family, Saturday, September 22, 2012.
She was born June 27, 1913 to William David and Sally Witt Tacker. A life long resident of Chichasaw County, she graduated from Egypt School in 1930. She married James J. Hill on October 31, 1931, the marriage lasting 61 years until his death in August, 1992.
She was a homemaker and loved her church having served as Intermediate Sunday School Director, was active in her Sunday School Class, WMU President, and adult choir member. She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church. She was a gracious and wonderful hostess and good cook. Her other interests included traveling and camping.
Services will be Today, Sept. 24, 2012, at First Baptist Church, Okolon, Miss. at 2:00 P.M. with Brother Eric Boykin Officiating. Burial will be at Boone’s Chapel Cemetery. Holland Funeral Directors, Okolona Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Patsy Hill Gooden (Sammy) of Hixson, Tenn.; a son, James J. Hill III of Okolona; two granddaughters, Lisa Gooden Baker (James) of Hixson, Tenn. and Laura Gooden Griffeth (Edward) of Ooltewah, Tenn.; grandchildren, Joshua Charles McMullan, James Jacob and Ali Adison Barker of Hixson, Tenn., Tanner Edward and Samantha Rae Griffith of Ooletewah, Tenn.; one sister, Lorene Tacker Hill of Okolona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to her primary and devoted caregiver, Mrs. Nora Clark and to Mrs. Betty Dunaway, Mrs. Gay Palmer, and Mrs. Kristi Carter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James J. Hill; her brothers, Leonard Calvert, William and Arthur Tacker; sisters, Vivie Birmingham, Rena Riley, Maud Cox, Viola Sullivan, Elna Sullivan and Sallie Dee Bowles.
Pallbearers will be Joshua McMullan and Tanner Griffith great-grandsons, George Carter, Jonathan Carter, Edward Downey and Preston Sullivan.
Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 P.M. until service time.

WEST POINT – Norman Armstrong, 77, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-GT, Columbus.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Episcopal Church of the Incarnation. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille Deas Armstrong of West Point; and several cousins.

BLUE SPRINGS – Dale Pannell Rakestraw, 83, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born in New Albany on Dec. 5, 1928, to Walter Pannell and Katrina Gibson Pannell. She enjoyed painting, making dolls and doing arts and crafts. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church, where she had taught Sunday school for 35 years.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at New Harmony Baptist Church with Bro. Mark Nail, Bro. Johnny Rakestraw and Bro. Doug Rakestraw officiating. Burial will be in New Harmony Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Houston Rakestraw of Blue Springs; one son, Johnny Rakestraw (Donna) of Blue Springs; two sisters, Joyce Brown of New Albany and Betty Jo Speck of Selmer, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Natalie Satterwhite (Shane), Josh Rakestraw (Allison), Doug Rakestraw (Rebecca) and Jamie Rakestraw; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Marilyn Rakestraw Lanphere; two brothers, Roy Pannell and Jerry Pannell; and three sisters, Opal Reaver, Christine Randolph and Hazel Roberts.
Pallbearers will be Fleet Rowan, Roy Caldwell, Shane Satterwhite, Josh Rakestraw, Doug Rakestraw and Johnny Rakestraw.

Martha Easterling
TUPELO – Martha Stanley Easterling, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Sunshine Health Care in Pontotoc after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Wister, Okla. She retired from the BancorpSouth Operations Center. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was actively involved in her grandchildren’s lives. She spent many an enjoyable day watching her grandchildren being involved in their activities, including baseball, tennis, cheerleading and horse showing. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Saltillo.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lee Memorial Park Cemetery with Dr. Ken Anderson officiating. W.E. Pegues Funeral Home of Saltillo will be in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Rhonda Carlock (Steve) of Saltillo, Michelle Porch (Joe) of Blue Springs; one sister, Louise Reeder of Saltillo; four grandchildren, Jeremy Carlock (Shannah), Keegan Porch (Charlie), Katie Young (Tyler), and Chase Porch (Jordan); seven great-grandchildren, Ellie and Miles Carlock, Anisley and Ky Porch, Tatum Young, Easton and Stella Porch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Dewey and Katie Atwell Stanley; one sister, Betty Grace Stanley; and four brothers, Joseph, Edward, Eugene and Kenneth Stanley.
Pallbearers will be Joe, Keegan and Chase Porch, Terry and Joey Stanley and Steve Carlock.
Honorary pallbearer will be USAF Master Sergeant Jeremy Carlock, Downham Market, Norfolk, UK.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Saltillo.
