What: Super Samurai Weekend II
When: May 3-5
Featuring: Daily training sessions with martial arts master Toshiro Obata, lecture on Japanese swords and buffet supper, and public martial arts demonstration
Training: Sessions will be at the National Guard Armory at 920 Industrial Road in Baldwyn; times will be 5-8 p.m. May 3, aikido/aiki-jujutsu; 9 a.m.-noon May 4, shinkendo; 9 a.m.-noon, May 5, shinkendo; 2-5 p.m., May 5, aikido/aiki-jujutsu. Fees are $30 per session.
Demonstration: Free one-hour public martial arts demonstration at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at the Mall at Barnes Crossing in Tupelo.
Dinner & lecture: All-you-can-eat buffet dinner at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at BelAir Country Club in Tupelo. The dinner is open to anyone who attends one or more training sessions; the meal cost is $10 per person. The event also features an after-dinner lecture by Paul Couch of Birmingham, a Samurai historian, and an antique Japanese sword exhibition.
