TUPELO – A New Albany business says it will refund purchases made this month if it snows on Christmas.
Van Atkins Jewelers in New Albany is running a promotion that owner Chuck Cooper said is translating into sales.
The deal: Van Atkins will refund any purchases made between Nov. 25 and Saturday if at least an inch of snow accumulates in New Albany on Christmas Day.
“You never know,” he said. “It [snowed] last year. It could this year.”
Cooper said he got the idea from a North Carolina jeweler who previously did it. The jeweler, Cooper said, wound up refunding the money.
Cooper said he was set to do it last year and had even filmed a TV commercial, but he never finished the paperwork so the promotion didn’t run. But, he’s doing it this year.
“I want it to snow,” he said. “I want to give the money back. … We have insurance to cover ourselves.”
If it snows, it will take about 60 days to get money back to customers, Cooper said. He’ll have a party and give out checks, he said, if there’s a white Christmas.
“There’s going to be thousands of people praying for snow, so you never know,” he said.
