Whitt’s counsel asks court to delay trial

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – Attorneys for Blake Whitt, a former Lee County Schools substitute teacher, say they’re trying to work out a plea deal for him and ask the federal court to delay his June 10 trial.
Whitt, 24, of Tupelo, was indicted Jan. 23 on federal charges accusing him of enticing a minor female for sex and using a cellphone to entice the 15-year-old girl.
He pleaded not guilty and faces up to life in prison, if convicted on both charges.
Wednesday, his attorneys say government prosecutors do not oppose the delay.
