Whodunit? ‘Clue’ live-read tonight at Link Centre

By Sheena Barnett/NEMS Daily Journal

Is it Miss Scarlet with the candlestick, Professor Plum with the revolver or Mrs. White with the knife?
Find out at “Clue” – Live!, tonight at the Link Centre.
A cast of actors will live read the script of the 1985 comedy, based on the popular Parker Brothers game, complete with costumes, weapons, blackouts and three possible endings.
“The actors have scripts in hand as they read and act the story – but almost anything can and does happen,” said Derek Russell, who’s directing the show. “It’s very laid-back, and you’ll find the cast laughing along with the audience through most of the production.”
The live-read aspect of the show is what drew John Carroll, who stars as the butler Wadsworth, and Suzanne Oakley, who stars as Miss Scarlet, to the production.
“One thing that helps is that we read – there’s no memorization, and I’ve watched the movie numerous times (for inspiration). It allows you to be more spontaneous,” Carroll said.
Oakley agreed.
“It’s fun to hang on to the (script) and a revolver at the same time – it’s hard to turn the page,” she said, laughing. “It’s a whole lot of fun.”
For fans of the board game, several different versions of the game will be set up to play after the show. “Clue” game cards will also be on the back of each program so the audience can play along with the production, Russell said.
“This is not your typical theatrical production,” he said. “You’re not going to see this anywhere else.”
