WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker of Tupelo was chosen Thursday to serve on four committees of the 112th Congress.
His assignments are the Armed Services Committee; the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee; the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee; and the Veterans Affairs Committee.
In a statement released by his office, he said he would focus on reforming Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. “I look forward to reducing the size and scope of these costly government programs as a member of the Banking Committee,” said Wicker, a Republican.
Wicker will continue to be a member of the Armed Services Committee, and remains the only senator from the state to serve on the Veterans Affairs Committee. Wicker himself is an Air Force veteran.
In addition, he will work as a deputy whip, a role in which he will work with Republican Whip Jon Kyl to recommend conservative agenda items and build support for the legislative plan.
