Wicker part of congressional trip to Mideast

JACKSON — U.S. Sen. Roger Wicker says he traveled to Afghanistan over the weekend to meet with Mideast leaders and military officials.

A news release from Wicker’s office said the senator was among a group of congressional leaders who spent Sunday at several remote U.S. and allied operating bases in Afghanistan, meeting with American and British military commanders. The delegation also met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

According to Wicker’s office, the group met Friday in Islamabad, Pakistan, with President Ali Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
