Wide load will slow travel in parts of Northeast Mississippi

By Press Release

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) would like to announce the following traffic alert to motorists traveling in the state of Mississippi.

On Tuesday, April 10, Miller Transfer will move a wide load through Mississippi from Tennessee. The load is 20 feet 11 inches wide with legal height and 79 feet long and weighing 136,000 pounds. The wide load will be coming into Mississippi on Highway 45 from Tennessee and proceeding south to the Highway 45 Alternate then back to Highway 45 to Meridian. It will then travel on I-20 west to I-59 and proceed south. It will travel through Laurel and Hattiesburg, then exit off of I-59 to get on Highway 98 and head into Alabama. This wide load move will take a couple of days to complete.

“It is imperative to get this wide load moved to its destination in a timely manner but even more important to keep motorists safe and aware of the wide load move especially during peak hours of traffic,” said the Mississippi Transportation Commission in a joint statement.

Motorists should be aware and expect a short traffic delay on this route along the highways. MDOT regrets any inconveniences this temporary delay may cause to the traveling public.
