Wife of slain hunter has trial date set

STARKVILLE — The trial of a Maben woman accused of in death of her husband while the couple hunted in western Oktibbeha County has been rescheduled for Aug. 2.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that the decision on the trial of 38-year-old Verina Marie Childs came after prosecutors said the investigation was ongoing.

Childs has been charged with murder in the shooting death of her husband, 32-year-old Douglas Marion Childs on Nov. 22, 2009.

Authorities say Douglas Childs was shot in the back with a rifle.
