TUPELO – After days of on-again, off-again forecasts of snow and ice in Northeast Mississippi, the National Weather Service has extended a winter weather advisory until 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Light snow has been reported during daylight hours Wednesday in places as disparate as Oxford, Itawamba County and Columbus.
“We’re still expecting a period of snow through the evening hours,” said Jonathan Howell, a Memphis-based Weather Service meteorologist. “There’s been some rain around, but it’s going to try to transition over to snow. We’re expecting accumulations of 1-2 inches prior to ending after 10. Everything should be shifting east of here.”
Howell expects skies to clear by sunrise on Thursday and highs to reach the mid- to upper-40s, but urged motorists to continue using caution until temperatures are well above freezing.
“There may some icy patches on roadways that cause problems,” he said.
