Winter weather still possible for region

Most of Northeast Mississippi missed the ice, sleet and snow that closed schools, downed power lines and made travel hazardous in other parts of the Mid-South on Friday.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation issued notices Friday afternoon that Marshall and Benton counties had begun to see icy conditions on bridges and overpasses, but sheriff’s departments in both counties noted few problems as of early Friday night.

The National Weather Service forecast on Friday called for continuing chances of wintry precipitation in western counties of the region through Tuesday, including a chance of snow Monday night.
