TUPELO – A Tupelo man died Tuesday about 3 p.m. at North Mississippi Medical Center from a gunshot wound sustained in what authorities say was an early morning altercation.
Police took Latasha Isby, 27, of Tupelo, into custody as a suspect shortly after the 2 a.m. shooting on Bryson Drive. Later, she was charged with aggravated assault.
The charge was upgraded to murder, according to Tupelo Police Lt. Jerry Davis, when the man died from his gunshot wound.
Davis said the man’s name will not be released until family has been notified.
The gunshot wound was from a handgun, which has been recovered, but Davis said they aren’t releasing any more information due to the ongoing investigation.
Isby allegedly shot a family member, Davis said, and they believe the shooting followed what he described as an argument between family members.
Tupelo police officers found Isby at a Tupelo apartment complex soon after the shooting.
Isby will be arraigned on the murder charge today at 3 p.m. in Lee County Justice Court. She is in the Lee County Jail until her bond hearing.
