HOUSTON – Police and ambulance crews were called to an apartment complex on Airport Road about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, and discovered a man suffering from a knife wound.

Eric Moore, of Houlka, was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo and told officers he was allegedly stabbed once in the side by a woman who was wielding an 8-inch kitchen knife at No. 15 Chickasaw Village Apartments, 600 Airport Road.

“We were told there was a domestic disturbance and it escalated into the stabbing,” said Houston Town Marshal Billy Voyles. “We have recovered the knife and we did arrest a woman at the apartment complex.”

Voyles said Janet Calvin, 25, of 159 East Tenth Street in Verona, has been charged with aggravated assault and was placed in the Chickasaw County Jail. Calvin’s bond was set at $10,000, she has posted bond and she was released Friday morning.

Two small children in the apartment at the time of the incident were taken into custody by the Department of Human Services.

“We were told he was pushing the children around and she stepped in,” said Voyles. “We’re trying to sort that out and the incident is still under investigation.”

Voyles said there have been several incidents at that apartment and property owners have started the process to have the occupants evicted.

Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Department deputies and the Houston Fire Department also responded to the incident.
