NEW ALBANY – A New Albany woman has been arrested in connection with the Wednesday crash that killed a Union County Sheriff’s deputy.

Crystil M. Byers, 27, of 1286 Highway 178 West, Lot 175 has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality and culpable negligent manslaughter.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and the New Albany Police Department were investigating the crash that killed Clinton H. Frazier, who joined the department in 2012. The crash occurred about 9 p.m. on U.S. Highway 178, inside the Myrtle town limits.

MBI said the preliminary investigation indicates Byers caused the accident that caused the deputy to leave the road and crash, and she reportedly left the scene.

Following an initial appearance, Byers was held on $375,000 bond at the Pontotoc County Jail.

Frazier leaves behind a wife and three children, and the Police Benevolent Foundation and the Mississippi Division of the Southern States PBA is set to aid the family.

Donations can be made at any Regions Bank to assist in efforts to provide financial support to Frazier’s family through the “Deputy Clinton Frazier Memorial Fund” at any Regions Bank. Donations also can be made online at www.pbfi.org.
