'Words' between drivers end in gunfire

HERNANDO — Hernando Police say an argument that started on U.S. 51 ended with gunfire that injured one driver.

Detective Michael White says it started when a white pickup truck pulled in front of another vehicle, slowed to about 5 mph, then drove off early Sunday. He says the drivers argued after leaving the highway.

White says the pickup’s driver fired several shots from a .40-caliber gun, then left. The other driver was taken to Regional Medical Center in Memphis with a shoulder wound.

The injured driver’s name was withheld and his condition unknown.

White says police were looking for two white men in their late teens or early 20s; their pickup — either GMC or a Chevy 271 — had chrome tip dual exhaust pipes and a FlowMaster sticker on the bottom right bumper.
