Yocona River Inn fire ruled accident

OXFORD – A March 12 fire that heavily damaged a popular Lafayette County restaurant was an accident, the state fire marshal has ruled.
Yocona River Inn, known for its steaks and a variety of haute cuisine offerings that prompted patrons to wait hours for a table, recently had undergone extensive renovations when a blaze apparently began in the kitchen area.
Owner Paige Osborn determined that the building, which she converted from an old country store and filling station, must be demolished except for the distinctive hip-roofed front porch.
“While it will be a relief not to look out on the wreckage from my kitchen window,” Osborn said, “it will be heart-breaking to see our beloved old building come down.”
