TUPELO – HealthWorks! Children’s Health Education Center turns one this week, and it wants to share the wacky, happy, healthy fun.
“We’ve had a great year,” said Donna Loden, the imaginator of awesome experiences, or program director.
The center has served up high-energy health education designed to engage kids and encourage healthy choices through school field trips, camps and public programs since it opened Jan. 31, 2009.
About 25,000 people have come through its doors in the first year.
All-day admission on Saturday will be $1 per person instead of the usual $4.
Like any good birthday party, there will be fun and games, such as Hula Hoop challenges, marble art and a magical floating orb.
During Tune Time from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., people can perform their own original HealthWorks! jingle. The song lyrics must include the phrase “infectiously contaminating fun.” The judges will give points for creativity and costumes.
Face-painting, confetti balloons and a yummy, healthy snack station will round out the special fun. The Kohl’s A team will be there to make special HealthWorks! hats.
As part of the celebration, the center collect gifts of new baby rattles to donate to the NMMC pediatric floor’s CARE Bear room. The toys in the CARE Bear room are given to help pediatric patients get through procedures, like starting an IV.
“We’re excited about starting our partnership with the pediatrics floor,” Loden said.
