GOLDEN – Edith E. Lancaster, 79, died Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Red Bay Hospital.
Services were held Sunday, May 17, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, Ala. Deaton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Virginia Tigrett
BOONEVILLE – Virginia Chittom Tigrett, 81, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Cornerstone Health and Rehabilitation in Corinth. She was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Prentiss County to the late Clovis Edward Chittom and Floye Ollie Miller Chittom. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel Independent Baptist Church. She was a retired factory worker. She enjoyed growing flowers and cooking and she loved her grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Elbert Ray Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Booneville Cemetery. Boonevill Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
She is survived by a daughter, Dianne Maze (Joe) of Corinth; two sons, Darrell Tigrett (Jan) of Booneville and Terry Tigrett of Atlanta, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Sonya Walters, Robert Maze, Julie Brown, Jenna Johnson, Joey Tigrett, Matthew Tigrett and Josh Tigrett; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Chester Tigrett, in 1963; a daughter, Carolyn Tanner, in 2002; and her parents.
Pallbearers are Robert Maze, Joey Tigrett, Jeff Johnson, Joe Maze, James Ray Hastings, and Thomas Davis.
Visitation will continue until service time today.

IUKA – Marie Cutshall Philbin, 75, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Cutshall Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roy Blair officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lewis Thompson
SMITHVILLE – Lewis H. Thompson, 87, died Friday, May 15, 2009, at the Riverplace Nursing Center in Amory after an extended illness. He was born Jan. 10, 1922, in Smithville to the late Condie Lee and Vangie Bennett Thompson. He married Mary Helen Ross in 1946 who predeceased him in 1998. He was retired from Monroe Trouser and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe. He was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and he enjoyed gardening.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Smithville with Ministers Hoyet Hathcock and Mickey Beam officiating. Burial will be in the Maxey Cemetery. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Smithville is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include four daughters, Dannis Mason (Ken), Vickie Weatherbee (Wayne), Allene Morgan and Kathy Baucom, all of Smithville; one sister, Jeanette Roche of Smithville; 11 grandchildren, Brad, Clay and Chad Thompson, Cayce Carter, Jody Powell, Kim Mills, Deedra Wray, Derek Thompson, Layce and Wesley Hacker and Shaun Kinsey; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sons, Howell, Benny and Darwin Thompson; and two daughters, Susan Elam and Kelly Thompson.
Pallbearers will be Brad, Clay and Chad Thompson, Cayce Carter, Jody Powell, Derek Thompson, Shaun Kinsey and Wesley Hacker.

SALTILLO – Iris Wicks Culver, 73, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her residence in Saltillo. She was born Sep. 17, 1935, in Fox River, Wis., to Clayton and Agnes Sanderson Wicks. She was a native of Wisconsin, but had resided in Lee County for the past 80 years. She was a retired housekeeping employee and cook at nursing homes and restaurants and was a Baptist.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Dwain Ard officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include three daughters, Marla Walls (Zeke) of Russell Springs, Ky., Sandy Garcia of Plantersville and Peggy Culver of Tupelo; two sons, Butch Culver (Billie) of Shannon and Scott Culver of Mantachie; one sister, Arlene Froedge of Fla.; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Quitman “Blue” Culver; her parents; one daughter, Lisa Wilson; and one granddaughter, Lisa Clark.

CORINTH – Louise Kirkland Brooks, 89, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her residence. She was a native of Alcorn County and a lifelong and active member of Box Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a most generous spirit especially with her church and was always helping others. She retired from Itt Telecomm and was a prior associate of Weaver Pants Company.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McPeters Chapel with Rev. Mary Lou Tickell and Rev. Kyle Ivy officiating. Burial will be in the Box Chapel Cemetery. McPeters Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Brooks (Judy) and Robert “Buster” Brooks; three daughters, Betty B. Elam (Kenneth), Faye Brooks and Jamie B. Patrick, all of Corinth; five grandchildren, Kim Elam Sallis, Daniel Roaten, Tricia Tomlinson, Christy Brooks and Brandie Counce; eight great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Margaret Kirkland of Lexington, Va.; niece, Laura Shell of Elgin, S.C.; and a special friend, Joyce Price.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond C. Brooks; a son, Billy Wayne Brooks; an infant daughter, Nancy Kay Brooks; a brother, James M. “Bill” Kirkalnd; and her parents, James M. and Ella Mae Kirkland.

WATERFORD – Charles Russell Smith, 66, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at his residence. He was born Feb. 16, 1943, in Waterford to the late John Russell Smith and Zelma Bailey. He attended Spring Hill Baptist Church, was a propane gas truck driver and a veteran of the United States Army.

THAXTON – Sheryle Studler, 61, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born in Pheonix, Ariz., to the late Ray Charles LeMotte and Betty Anderson. She was a truck driver for 27 years before retiring.

BURNSVILLE – Carl “C.W.” Gray, 66, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth. He was a member of Rowland Mills Baptist Church and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Rowland Mills Baptist Church with Bro. Edward Stacy and Bro. James Garrett officiating. Burial will be in the Rowland Mills Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Glen is in charge of the arrangements.

Dorothy T. Allen
TUPELO – Dorothy T. Allen, 89, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. She was the widow of Lee N. Allen Sr. who died in 1992. She was born near Hamilton, Ala., to the late Matthew and Lydia Taylor. She graduated from high school in Hamilton, Ala., in 1937. She has been a resident of the Tupelo area for more than 70 years. She was a housewife, held various part-time jobs and was an assistant for many years on the Lee County Library Bookmobile which served Lee and Itawamba Counties. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church for approximately 62 years, active until her health began to fail. She had been a resident of Homeplace at Saltillo for six years.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery northwest of Belden. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her son, L. Nash Allen Jr. (Rosaland) of the Natchez Trace Villas; two sisters, Cuple Gann and Eva Holloway; a brother, Erskine Taylor, all of Hamilton, Ala.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, James Taylor and Doyes Taylor.
