Mrs. Beth Brevard
TUPELO – Mrs. Mae Elizabeth Boozer Brevard was born October 6, l923 in Shannon to Riley Clinton and Era Thornton Boozer. She died Friday, August 16, 2013 at the North Miss. Medical Center after an extended illness. Beth was a l941 graduate of Shannon High School where she was valedictorian of her class. She received a degree from MSCW in l945 with a major in bacteriology and then worked a year as an x ray technician at the Gadsden Memorial Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama. She married Henry C. Brevard 67 years ago today on Aug. 18, l946 at Shannon United Methodist Church. In l949, she chose with her husband to move to Tupelo, where they have continued to live. Affectionately known as Beth, she was a tireless worker for good purposes in Tupelo and Lee County. Beth served as an early President of Junior Auxiliary. She was a long time secretary of the Primary Department of the First United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities especially the Alter Guild Committee, from which she made countless contributions. While she continued her allegiance to MSCW, she followed her husband and son’s loyalties with a corresponding allegiance to the University of Mississippi where she is an honorary member of the Ole Miss Alumni Association. At Ole Miss, she was keenly interested in the establishment, growth and development of the Center for the Study of Southern Culture where she served as a Board Member.

Beth was a veteran and valued volunteer at the North Mississippi Medical Center and, in 2006, received the NMMC Auxiliary “Volunteer of the Year” Award. Mrs. Brevard loved the outdoors and will be remembered by her friends and neighbors as a familiar sight doing her own yard work and driving her own lawn tractor. Beth Brevard touched many lives, made a difference in her earthly pilgrimage, and a grateful family, church, community and centers of learning everywhere express their appreciation for a quiet life well lived in selfless service to others.

A Service of Death and Resurrection will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 19, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church in Tupelo with Rev. James “Jim” Curtis and Rev. Lynn Mote officiating. Visitation will be from 4PM-6PM today at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors and from 10 AM-service time on Monday at the Gathering Room at First United Methodist Church. A private family committal service will follow in the Brevard Family Plot at Masonic Cemetery in Amory. Rev. Jimmy Criddle will officiate at the graveside.

Survivors include her husband: Mr. Henry C. Brevard, Jr. of Tupelo; her daughter: Elise Brevard Smith and her husband, Mike of Ridgeland; her son: David Brevard and wife, Shawn of Tupelo. Three grandchildren: Riley Smith of Washington, D.C., Stewart Brevard of Nashville, Tenn.,

Lizzie Brevard of Tupelo and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. one niece: Susan Peeler Fuller and husband, Allen of Lake Wylie, South Carolina and their families and one nephew: Frank Peeler and wife, Cheryl of Amory and their families. One first cousin: Dr. Herschel P. Bentley, Jr. and his wife, Betty of Mobile, Ala. and their families. Her caregivers: Rochelle Carter, Lela Greer, Teresa Garmon and Sharon Clifton.

Willie Mae Gates
HOUSTON – Willie Mae Gates, 91, died Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at Trace Regional Hospital in Houston.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Center Hill M.B. Church in Houston. Burial will be in Gibbs Cemetery. Montgomery Mortuary of Houston is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Joyce Ferguson
TUPELO – Joyce Ferguson, 70, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center. A Tupelo native, she was born March 13, 1943, to Trannie Darnell and Hettie Lucille Putt Bowen. A faithful employee, she retired from NMMC after 35 years of service as a CLPN. She was loved by her family and will be greatly missed.

Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include two grandchildren, Brandon Meggs of Tupelo (fiancee, Amber Sartain) and Blake Meggs (Alanna) of Pontotoc; two great-grandchildren, Reece and Anthony; two sisters, Peggy Reeves (Donnie) of Pontotoc and Diane McKissack (Wayne Reeves) of Tupelo; and one brother, Don Bowen (Evelyn) of Byhalia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie Ferguson; and one daughter, Robin Meggs.

Pallbearers will be Adrian Shook, Andy Kimery, Kevin Crosby, Jessie Reeves, Michael Parker and Alex Witcher.

Honorary pallbearers will be Phil and Robert Baldwyn.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

MOOREVILLE – Doris Richey, 67, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at her home. She was born Jan. 1, 1946, in Starkville to Henry Alvin and Helen Louise Ellington Ivy. She was a longtime employee of Tecumseh Products and worked later for Daybrite. She was a Baptist, and she enjoyed quilting, sewing, gardening, watching TV and shopping off of the Home Shopping Network. She loved her cats.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at Lee Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Charlie Ganey officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. Lee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Bobby Richey of Mooreville; one brother, Billy Ivy (Retha) of Wyatte; four sisters, Nora Beauchamp of Moss Point, Mary Cox (Bobby) of New Albany, Evelyn Ivy (Phil) of Myrtle and Betty Hall (Wayne) of Ecru; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Alisa Russell; and three siblings, Jimmy Ivy, Johnny Ivy and Berneice Nobles.

Pallbearers will be John Ivy, Adam Hardy, Tony Ivy, Alex Ivy, David Sansing, Rob Nobles, Mike Nobles and Chris Dye.

Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Hardin, Josh Hardin and Doug Griffin.
