NEW ALBANY – Gladys Hale Davis, 95, passed away August 31, 2012, at Dogwood Plantation Assisted Living in New Albany. She was born in Lafayette County, Mississippi March 26, 1917, to Q.D. and Janie Hale. She graduated from W.P. Daniel High School in 1934. She was married to John M. Davis who preceded her in death in 1988.
She was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church for many years. She was an active member of the J.O.Y. Sunday School class and W.M.U. She was an active member of A.A.R.P. and the Business Women’s Club. She served as Chief Clerk of the Selective Service Board during World War II. She retired from the Union County School System after 24 years at the Central Office at the Courthouse. She spearheaded the beginning of the New Haven Center for Special Needs Adults and served as a volunteer there for 49 years. She was honored in July 2009 with a party attended by many thankful participants and their families where she received a plaque and a proclamation from Mayor Tim Kent.
She is survived by her son, Johnny Davis (Carolyn) and grandson, Joe M. Davis (Jennie) of New Albany; her granddaughter Dawn Davis Carson (Jeff) of Hernando; and two great-grandchildren Katie Davis and John MacGregor Davis of New Albany.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Jimmy Davis; and two brothers, Q.D. Hale Jr. and Harold Hale.
Visitation is Sunday from 4:00p.m. utill 7:00p.m. at United Funeral Service. The funeral service will be held at 10:00a.m. Monday, September 3, at United Funeral Service with Bro. Whit Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in New Albany Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Bob Wages, Keith Richey, Marshall Robbins, Ed Humphreys, Dewey Davidson, and Frank Madden. Honorary pallbearers are Herbert Morgan, Bro. Enoch Purvis, and Charles Coker.
The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff of Dogwood Plantation and Sanctuary Home Hospice for their loving care.

MOBILE, Ala. – Cathy Jean Burson left to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012. She was a native of Tupelo and a lifelong resident of Mobile, Ala.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home in Mobile, Ala. Entombment will be at the Chapel of Chimes Mausoleum.
She is survived by her daughter, Shannon Teresa Burson; her mother, Dorothy Jean Adams; her siblings, David V. Adams (Dana) and Teresa Adams (David); her grandchild, Emilee Harper; her nieces and nephews, Denise Smith (Rick), Deann Adams and David V. Adams Jr. (Amy); her caregivers, Cassandra J. Moultrie, Linda Daniels and Yolanda Washington.
She was preceded in death by her father, Travis Virgil Adams.
Visitation will be from noon to service time Sunday at the funeral home.

WEST POINT – Erma Gordon, 81, died Aug. 28, 2012, at Rush Hospital in Meridian.

NEW ALBANY – Jettie Pearl Pannell Roaton, 92, died Friday Aug. 31, 2012, at her home. She was born to Samuel Wise Pannell and Minnie Hogue Pannell in Union County on Sept. 4, 1919. She was a retired cafeteria worker for New Albany City Schools. She loved cooking and spending time with her family. She was a member of Keownville Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at United Funeral Service Chapel with Bro. Larry Harrison and Bro. Jerry Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Keownville Cemetery. United Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda Sue Tutor (Jerry); one son, Barton H. Roaton (Janice), both of New Albany; three grandchildren, Britt McNeely, Dewayne Roaton, and Barry Roaton, all of New Albany; two step-grandchildren, Bruce Tutor of Pontotoc and Kyle Tutor of Amory; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clifton Roaton; and two sisters, Lizzie Mitchell and Lavader Hill.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Roaton, Barry Roaton, Britt McNeely, Chris Roaton, Andrew Johnson, Bruce Tutor, Coty Johnson, and Trevor Roaton.

BALDWYN – Edna Wallis Hood, 75, died Sept. 1, 2012, at her home. She was a business owner and member of Parkview Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clellon RC “Shine” Hood of Baldwyn; four children, Randy Hood (Vicky) of Booneville, Greg Hood (Laurie) of Pratts, Tammy Anglin (Roger) of Birmingham Ridge, and Tish Glover (Bill) of Wheeler; six grandchildren, Jordan Hood, Alaina Anglin, Zack Anglin, Hilary Glover, Noah Glover and Noel Glover; one sister, Nettie Rae Pierce of Baldwyn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; nine brothers; and four sisters.
Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

ENON – Tom L. Farr Jr., 82, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 3, 1930, in Houlka to Tom L. Farr Sr. and Tommie Lou King Farr. He was a carpenter and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Fellowship Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Brock officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Cemetery in Verona. Southern Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Farr of Enon; two sons, Thomas A. Farr and Jeanette of Okolona, and Robert Farr and Luanne of Buena Vista; a daughter, Carol L. McGraw and Todd of Houston; stepchildren, Jamie Brassfield and Brenda of Houston, Donna Harris and Jimmy of Houston, and Michael Brassfield and Danielle of Bolivar, Tenn.; a sister, Brenda Wilson and Fred of Bissel; 22 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; the mother of his children, Elaine Earnest Farr; and four sisters, Gwendolyn Tallent, Loudean Porter, Laverne Byars and Sarah Clark.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

ECRU – Omie Louise Dye, 92, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. She was born Feb. 8, 1920, in Union County to Sylvester and Nora Pauline Hardin Lessel. She was a member of Ecru Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be missed by those who loved and knew her.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at United Funeral Service with Dr. Carl Weeden officiating. Burial will be in Ecru City Cemetery. Untied Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her daughter, Sara P. Speck (Dr. James) of Ecru; two sisters, Ethel Grant of Ecru and Effie Smith of Blue Springs; four grandchildren, Jeannie Thompson (Paul), Anna Guntharp (Keith), Jodie Parham (Joseph), and Wilson Speck (Emily); and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Dye; a sister, Mittie Grant; and a brother, Joe Lessel.
Pallbearers will be Keith Guntharp, Adam Guntharp, Matthew Guntharp, Joseph Parham, Paul Thompson, and Benton Thompson.
